International Women's Day

With International Women’s Day upon us (March 8), I wanted to take the time to reflect on all the strong and proud women who call this province home.
I’m inspired daily by the hard work, dedication, compassion and expertise of my colleagues at the New Brunswick Union and our members. Each day, their efforts make our province work while helping their fellow New Brunswickers in countless ways.
For generations, the women of this province have been the backbone of New Brunswick. The elder generation who fought for their rights ensuring those who came after them would have a better life. We see their spirit alive and well in the younger generation who are building upon the foundation and making tremendous gains.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. On its website, the theme is described as:
The future is exciting. Let's build a gender-balanced world. Everyone has a part to play - all the time, everywhere.
From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence.
Balance drives a better working world. Let's all help create a #BalanceforBetter.
Here in NB there are many ways we can work towards balance from seeing pay equity implemented in the private sector to getting more women involved in politics be it at the municipal, provincial or federal levels.
These are just a few ways we can help create a better balanced New Brunswick.
Perhaps the most important thing we can do is continue to set an example for the younger generation. Show them strong women supporting one another to improve their communities, provinces, country and the world.
