Cannabis NB employees attempt to unionize at two stores

On behalf of the employees at the Cannabis NB stores in Campbellton and Miramichi, the New Brunswick Union has applied to NB Labour and Employment Board to become the official bargaining agent for those two groups.
The application was submitted on Jan. 17, 2019.
“The majority of the employees at those two stores signed cards with us indicating they wanted to become unionized,” said NBU President Susie Proulx-Daigle. “We respect their rights and went forward with the application.”
The NBU has cards signed by other Cannabis NB employees throughout the province, but Campbellton and Miramichi had the strongest concentration of workers wanting to unionize to date.
“Organizing Cannabis NB has been challenging as we don’t have a list of names of employees and by law we can’t approach them in the workplace,” said Proulx-Daigle. “Our team has been working hard making contact in various ways to let these workers know about their options.”
Proulx-Daigle encourages any Cannabis NB employee interested in learning more about unionization to contact the NBU at (506) 458-8440 or go online to www.nbu.ca.
