Video game gives glimpse of working in a nursing home

The New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes Inc. has come up with an innovative way to introduce the nursing home environment and career opportunities in the field to youth.
It recently launched an online video game called Journey Through Carington House on the Nursing Home Jobs NB website: http://www.nhjnb-efsnb.com/en/index.html
The game also has a Facebook page called Journey Through Carington House / Voyage au Manoir Bellevie.
As the player, it’s your first day on the job as a Resident Attendant in Carington House. The player is tasked with assisting residents with various tasks to improve their quality of life. Along the way, the player interacts with other staff, residents and family on a mission to collect all the golden puzzle pieces.
New Brunswick Union President Susie Proulx-Daigle encourages everyone to try the game whether just for fun or to learn a bit more about those who work in nursing homes.
“I think the people who work in nursing homes are vitally important to our society, especially here in New Brunswick as our population is aging,” she said. “They are vital, but often overlooked. That’s why I refer to them as the hidden heroes of healthcare.”
