New Brunswick Union statement on Black Lives Matter

The Black Lives Matter movement is offering everyone a chance to reflect on their own experiences and beliefs. For those who have been oppressed it’s an opportunity to have their voices heard and to speak about the injustices they have endured.
For others it has been a chance to recognize their privilege, educate themselves, listen and try to understand the hardships being faced by oppressed people.
The New Brunswick Union (NBU) supports Black Lives Matter. As a union, we oppose and condemn all forms of racism and discrimination.
Everyone has the right to live, work and raise a family without the fear of an attack based on any form of discrimination.
We’re proud to represent the hardworking people of our province. We’re proud of the efforts of our union and members to make positive change New Brunswick.
We can do more. We must do more.
It starts with each one of us.
We cannot stand by when we see instances of violence and racism. We cannot support political parties and ideologies which promote regressive practices, hatred and discrimination. We must make our voices heard because doing nothing is not an option.
A founding principle of labour unions is that we are stronger together. The changes, actions and conversations stemming from Black Lives Matter has shown this to be true.
By coming together and working together, we can make meaningful change. We can make our communities, province, country and world a better place.
