The NBU and NUPGE honoured by Ability NB

The New Brunswick Union (NBU) and the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) were honoured Monday evening by Ability New Brunswick with its Caring Corporate Partner Award.
The award was presented during Ability NB’s Annual General Meeting which was held virtually this year.
The award is presented to a community partner that has made an outstanding financial and/or in-kind - including volunteer - contribution to Ability NB during the past year.
The NBU and NUPGE made a joint $10,000 donation to Ability NB in September of 2020. The process was started when NUPGE offered all its components, of which the NBU is one, $0.50 per member to give to a charity of its choice for pandemic relief efforts.
The NBU board of directors voted to match the amount donated by NUPGE and round the figure up to $10,000. The board also chose Ability NB as the recipient.
The mission of Ability NB is to empower the independence and full community participation of persons throughout New Brunswick who have a mobility disability.
When the donation was made, Ability NB Executive Director Haley Flaro said it came at an important time for the organization and the people it helps.
“This donation comes at a crucial time when demand for our services is high,” said Flaro. “The NBU and NUPGE are working with us to make sure New Brunswickers with a mobility disability have the supports and tools they need to live safely and independently through the pandemic.”
Susie Proulx-Daigle, President of the NBU, accepted the award on behalf of the NBU and NUPGE.
“Ability NB does a tremendous job throughout the province and we were happy to be able to help in a time of need,” she said.
